Our story

A glow above the temple

Aura began with one simple idea: that the best view in Kathmandu deserved a table.

The Aura rooftop dining room with panoramic glass walls overlooking the Kathmandu valley

We are perched in Gaushala, on the rooftops of Pingalasthan, directly in front of Pashupatinath Temple Gate No. 6. From up here the city softens — the river, the temple roofs, the valley folding back toward the mountains.

Aura means a halo of light, and that is the hour we love most: dusk, when the gold drains from the sky and the city lights take over. We built the place around that moment — open and unhurried, somewhere pilgrims, travellers and Kathmandu locals all share the same view.

The kitchen is rooted in Thakali cooking from the Himalayan highlands — slow dals, timur-bright pickles, generous thalis served on brass — alongside the wood-fired plates and cocktails that make a rooftop evening. Traditional warmth, a modern setting.
